Amaravati, July 10 (IANS) YSR Congress Party has demanded that Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh be extended by one month.

The main opposition party cited glitches in the SIR to demand its extension by one month.

It also alleged that the coalition government is mounting pressure on officials and collecting data in advance.

YSRCP MLC Lella Appi Reddy told media persons on Friday that the leaders of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are forcing the officials to first upload the data in the MyTDP app before sending it to the Election Commission office, and every effort is being put to heckle democracy, making the Election Commission redundant in the State.

He claimed that elected representatives, ministers and even personal assistants of the ruling party leaders are threatening Booth Level Officials (BLOs) to first upload the data in their party app before sending it to the Election Office, and when a BLO went to lodge a complaint at a police station, it was not accepted, and there was pressure not to go ahead with the complaint.

“We have complained to the Election Commission on the irregularities and will again give a representation besides exploring legal options as well,” he said.

The YSRCP leader said that the enumeration process has many irregularities which came to light at Atmakur, Tamballapalle and other places, and the official statement boasting of figures stands no ground.

“As our leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had pointed out, every eligible voter should be given the opportunity to exercise the franchise, and as the process has been going on at a slow pace and the work at the ground level is not complete, we demand that the process be extended by one more month,” said Lella Appi Reddy.

YSRCP MLC also demanded that the Election Commission use its discretionary powers and check the irregularities. TDP and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu have been trying to use every opportunity for political gain even at the cost of democratic values, he said.

There are many duplicate votes to be weeded out, and the information is that in Kuppam (Chandrababu Naidu’s constituency) itself there are 30,000 bogus votes, he added.
