Telangana CM predicts landslide Congress victory in 2029 Assembly polls

Hyderabad, July 10 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday predicted that the Congress would retain power in the state with a landslide victory in the 2029 Assembly elections.

He said he believes the next Assembly elections will not be held in May-June 2029 but before the end of 2028.

Asserting that the proposed delimitation would increase Lok Sabha seats in Telangana from 17 to 26 and Assembly seats from 119 to 182, he expressed confidence that the Congress would win 20 Lok Sabha seats and 117 Assembly seats.

He was addressing a public meeting at Jagannathapuram in Khammam district after releasing ‘Rythu Bharosa’ funds for farmers.

“I am predicting the election results 36 months in advance. Congress will return to power for a second consecutive term by winning 117 out of the 182 Assembly seats. I swear by Lord Rama of Bhadrachalam. This is the pledge of the Khammam Congress workers. Let us ensure victory in 20 out of the 26 parliamentary seats in Telangana in the upcoming elections and make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister,” the Chief Minister said.

Revanth Reddy took a dig at the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for spreading what he described as fake survey reports. He said the opposition party, based on a fake survey, resorted to what he termed malicious propaganda by claiming that the Congress would lose the election.

“Does anyone conduct surveys or predict victory and defeat without even knowing when the elections will be held or how reservation policies might change? When similar claims were made in the Jubilee Hills byelection, the people dealt a crushing blow to the BRS,” he said, adding that the BRS survey team had turned into nothing more than a noisy, disreputable band of troublemakers.

Calling the next elections a “Kurukshetra” battle, the Chief Minister said the Congress would not rest until the “Kaurava” Kalvakuntla (KCR) family was politically defeated. “Since the formation of the Congress government in 2023, we have ensured victory in every election and confined KCR to his farmhouse,” he said.

Revanth Reddy dared BRS leader Harish Rao to take an oath in KCR’s name that he would not join the BJP.

“No one knows where the BRS leaders will end up. KTR does not know how long his brother-in-law will stay in the BRS. KTR’s own sister made a startling statement that the BRS will merge with the BJP. It was also KTR’s sister who revealed that contractors from Andhra gave hundreds of crores to the BRS,” the Chief Minister alleged, adding that there was no mutual trust among the BRS leaders’ family members.

Responding to the BRS demand for releasing water from the Medigadda barrage, a part of the Kaleshwaram project constructed during the BRS rule, the Chief Minister warned that the temple town of Bhadrachalam would be washed away if water was released from the damaged barrage.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy claimed that he has been working 18 hours a day and supporting farmers at every step. He also said that schemes such as Rythu Bandhu and Shadi Mubarak, launched by the previous BRS government, were being implemented.

“We are providing ration cards, fine-quality rice, 200 units of free electricity, ‘Indiramma’ houses to every poor person. We have also increased ‘Rythu Bharosa’ assistance to Rs 12,000 and freed farmers from debt by waiving their loans,” he added.
