Srinagar, July 11 (IANS) The Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district said on Saturday that it has detained a terror overground worker (OGW) through facial recognition system (FRS) deployed at the Nunwan base camp of Amarnath Yatra.

Police said that as part of the robust security arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the FRS deployed by Anantnag Police generated a timely alert at the X-Ray Point in Nunwan Base Camp, leading to the detention of one OGW.

The individual was identified as Mohd. Iqbal Wani, son of Ali Mohd Wani and resident of Hajin in Bandipora.

Acting swiftly on the FRS alert, police personnel intercepted and verified the individual, during which he was confirmed to be an OGW.

The individual has been detained for further legal proceedings and investigation.

The successful interception highlights the effectiveness of advanced technology integrated into the multi-layered security grid established by Anantnag Police for the safe and secure conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

The deployment of the FRS continues to strengthen real-time surveillance, enhance access control, and enable prompt response to potential security threats.

The Anantnag Police remains committed to leveraging modern technology and maintaining a vigilant security framework to ensure a safe, peaceful, and incident-free pilgrimage.

More than two lakh Yatris have performed the ongoing Amarnath Yatra during the last eight days while another batch of 6,482 pilgrims left Jammu for the Kashmir Valley on Saturday.

With the pilgrimage running smoothly on both the routes, the spiritual celebration is set to welcome a steady arrival of devotees in the coming weeks. Har Har Mahadev!”

On Saturday, a fresh batch of 6,482 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas for the Kashmir Valley.

The batch left in the early hours in a cavalcade of 268 escorted vehicles under strict security arrangements.
