Bengal: Jadavpur MP sends legal notice to teacher recruitment scam middleman

Kolkata, July 11 (IANS) Jadavpur MP Saayoni Ghosh on Saturday sent a legal notice to Tapas Mondal, one of the ‘middlemen’ in the teachers’ recruitment corruption case, who had made explosive allegations against her.

The Jadavpur MP sent the legal notice because her name is being unfairly linked to the recruitment scam. She filed a defamation case for Rs 5 crore and served him with a notice.

Elected as the MP from Jadavpur constituency on a Trinamool Congress ticket, Saayoni Ghosh joined the NCPI party after Trinamool’s defeat in the state Assembly elections. She was one of the rebel Trinamool MPs in the Lok Sabha who switched after the party was going through turmoil.

According to the legal notice, the middleman must immediately apologise and pay Rs 5 crore. Otherwise, she will take legal action against him. In this regard, she said the investigating agency called her once before, and she submitted 500 pages of documents.

She said she ignored it earlier, adding that she is a public representative and baseless comments cannot be made about anyone. She stated that if he does not reply, they will meet in court.

It may be noted that Tapas Mondal, one of the middlemen in the teachers recruitment corruption case, raised several allegations against Saayoni. In an interview with a media outlet, he said there are thousands of such Kuntal Ghoshs (the arrested former Trinamool leader in the recruitment corruption case) across the state who have withdrawn money in the name of Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

According to Mondal, Kuntal also spent a lot of money on Saayoni Ghosh because Saayoni was the youth president of the Trinamool Congress and Kuntal was the youth secretary. Mondal alleged that Kuntal gave Saayoni a flat and a car from the money generated through the recruitment scam.

After Tapas Mondal’s explosive allegation, Saayoni filed a defamation case against him. The legal notice states that Tapas Mondal’s comments have tarnished the MP’s image.
