Hyderabad, July 13 (IANS) Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP), C.V. Anand, has ordered suspension of a police officer for letting his minor granddaughter drive a car.

The DGP said on Monday that he has asked Cyberabad Police Commissioner to suspend the concerned officer and start a departmental enquiry on this indiscretion.

However, Cyberabad Police Commissioner, M. Ramesh, clarified that the officer is not working in Cyberabad police.

“We are sending a report to the competent authority to place him under suspension forthwith and to initiate disciplinary action against him Sir,” the Commissioner posted on ‘X’ in his reply to the DGP’s tweet.

Cyberabad police on Sunday night announced that a case has been registered against Pujari Thirupathi for letting a minor drive a car.

The Sub-Inspector of Police had let his granddaughter, said to be aged just six, drive a car on a busy road under the limits of Narsingi Police Station.

A case has been registered under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 184 and 180 of the Motor Vehicles Act against Pujari Thirupathi for permitting the minor girl to drive the vehicle in Narsingi Police Station limits. Further investigation is in progress, Cyberabad Traffic Police said on Monday.

The SI was found teaching the little girl driving on Saturday evening on the Gandhamguda road.

When people raised an objection to it, the child told them that her grandfather is an SI. Thirupathi tried to explain that it’s an automatic car and that he was in control of the vehicle at all times.

People asked the man how he could violate the rules, despite being a police officer. They told him to go to an open ground to teach the child driving and not to put the lives of others in danger.

After the video of the incident was widely circulated on social media and triggered public outrage, police took serious note of the same and initiated the action against the cop.
