ECI modifies SIR schedule for Andhra, Haryana; fixes Oct 3 as date for final list

New Delhi, July 14 (IANS) The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday modified the schedule for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, setting October 3 as the date for final publication of the voters’ list in both states.

While the qualifying date for both states will be July 1, the ECI has decided that the draft publication of the electoral rolls will take place on July 31 in both Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.

The house-to-house visits by BLOs will be conducted in both states between June 1 and July 24, said the Election Commission of India’s Under Secretary Sandeep Kumar in a letter addressed to the CEOs of both states.

The ECI said that the rationalisation and re-arrangement of polling stations will be completed by July 24.

The period for filing claims and objections will be from July 31 to August 30, it said, adding that the notice phase or disposal of claims and objections will be carried out from July 31 to September 28.

The final publication of electoral rolls will take place on October 3, the ECI said.

In its letter addressed to the CEOs of the two states, the ECI said, “All the officials/officers concerned shall be informed of the Commission’s above decision and wide publicity to the modified schedule shall be made through all available media. Political Parties shall also be informed of the modified schedule in writing.”

Earlier, the ECI issued instructions making it mandatory for existing voters not covered in the previous SIR to attach survey details of parents to remain on the voters’ list.

Even new voters filling Form 6 for inclusion in the electoral rolls need to attach the SIR details of their parents, said the ECI in the statement.

Similar declaration forms were asked for even during Bihar SIR, as these helped reduce documentation for new voters.
