Srinagar, July 16 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Thursday carried out a raid in connection with a terror-related case in Srinagar city.

Officials said the State Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted a search operation in the Rainawari area of Srinagar in connection with an ongoing investigation into a terror-related case.

The officials said the raid was carried out at the residence of Asim Farooq, son of Farooq Ahmad Budoo, a resident of Kralyar in Rainawari locality of the city.

They also said the search was part of an already registered case under investigation involving terror crime and the alleged misuse of cyberspace.

Further investigation in the case is underway, and details are awaited.

The State Investigation Agency of Jammu and Kashmir Police is a specialised counter-terror and anti-secessionist investigation agency. Established to coordinate closely with the NIA and other central authorities, the SIA is tasked with the speedy prosecution of militancy-related crimes, “white collar” terror modules, and narco-terror networks across the union territory.

The Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA) investigates serious offences related to national security. Their primary cases involve terror funding, cross-border narco-terrorism, cyberterrorism, and the revival of historical terror-related killings and secessionist conspiracies.

The SIA handles several high-profile case categories, including terror funding and conspiracies; probing networks that funnel money (including cryptocurrency) to sustain sleeper cells, overground workers (OGWs), and militant outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

This also includes “white-collar” terror modules exploiting professional institutions. SIA investigates organised networks smuggling cross-border narcotics (such as heroin) to finance and facilitate militant/ terror activities.

The agency is empowered to reopen and re-investigate historical terrorism cases that were left unresolved during the peak years of militancy, such as the 1990 killings of Kashmiri Pandit nurse Sarla Bhat and judge Neelkant Ganjoo.

The agency also investigates media groups, individuals, and online networks accused of misusing cyberspace to spread anti-India narratives and incite public disorder.
