Hyderabad, July 16 (IANS) Son of a Member of Telangana Legislative Council and two other youth were caught for allegedly consuming drugs but the MLC denied that his son consumed drugs or he was arrested.

Bharat Raj Reddy, Abhishek and Yunith were reportedly caught during a police raid in Mangalhat area on Wednesday night.

The raid was reportedly conducted following a tip-off that a group was allegedly involved in purchase and consumption of marijuana and hash oil.

While three persons were apprehended during the raid, four others managed to escape. Police have seized 24 grams of hash oil and 22 grams of marijuana.

The trio were taken to Mangalhat Police Station, where their blood samples were collected. They were subsequently shifted to Osmania General Hospital for medical examination.

Police registered a case and launched further investigation.

A search was on for four absconding accused – Soni, Vamsi, Manoj and Tulija.

Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC, P. Venkatram Reddy, denied that his son consumed drugs. He said in a statement that the reports about his arrest are baseless.

The MLC stated that there is no truth in the reports circulating that his son, Bharat Reddy, consumed drugs or that he was arrested by the Mangalhat police.

“The news appearing in the media is baseless and untrue. This morning, the Mangalhat police visited our residence, stating they were investigating a drug-related case and requested cooperation with the enquiry,” he said.

Venkatram Reddy said the police conducted an enquiry, which revealed his son had not consumed drugs.

“The investigation was conducted based on information linked to a phone number found in the contact list of a mutual acquaintance. Bharat was not arrested. He did not consume drugs,” the MLC said.

Mangalhat area is notorious for illicit liquor and drugs. The EAGLE Force (Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau), Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), Law and Order Police and Prohibition & Excise Department have been regularly conducting raids in the area.
