Dhanbad, July 16 (IANS) A Class 10 student of PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Nirsa, Dhanbad, Jharkhand, was allegedly stripped partially naked and brutally assaulted by fellow students inside the school hostel.

The accused students also reportedly recorded a video of the incident and circulated it online.

The incident came to light two days after it occurred. Police have launched an investigation, while the injured student is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The victim is a resident of a village in Govindpur police station limits.

According to his family members, a dispute broke out among some students late on Tuesday night over a money transaction carried out through a mobile phone. The disagreement allegedly escalated into violence.

The family has alleged that a group of students assaulted the boy, tied his hands and beat him with belts.

They further claimed that the accused forced him to remove his clothes, recorded a video of the assault and threatened him with consequences if he disclosed the incident to anyone.

A video purportedly related to the incident has also surfaced on social media and is being widely circulated.

The victim’s family said the student remained silent about the incident for two days due to fear and pressure.

During this period, he reportedly took medicine from the school nurse and endured the pain without informing anyone about what had happened.

He also did not reveal his actual condition to his family.

On Thursday, when his condition worsened and the pain became unbearable, he called his family and narrated the entire incident. His relatives immediately reached the school and took him for medical treatment.

The student was first taken to a primary health centre, where doctors provided initial treatment before referring him to the Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad for advanced care.

He is currently undergoing treatment there.

The incident has triggered concern within the school campus. The victim’s family has demanded strict legal action against those responsible.

Police said an investigation is underway and all aspects of the case are being examined.
