Kejriwal lends support to Sonam Wangchuk by visiting Jantar Mantar

New Delhi, July 16 (IANS) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday showed solidarity with agitating activist Sonam Wangchuk at his protest site at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, suggesting that the engineer-turned-activist from Ladakh should be appointed the Education Minister to end irregularities in exams.

Kejriwal’s surprise appearance at Wangchuk’s protest site coincided with his post in Hindi on social media platform X in which he said, “… Sonam Wangchuk should be appointed as the country’s Education Minister… We’re really very proud of you Sonam ji.”

The AAP leader reached the Jantar Mantar protest site of Wangchuk to lend support to the demonstrators who have demanded action over alleged exam paper leaks.

Addressing Wangchuk’s supporters at the protest site, Kejriwal said a change in the Education Ministry is called for and Wangchuk is the ideal candidate to be the nation’s Education Minister.

In another X post, the AAP leader said, “Today, I went to Jantar Mantar to support Sonam Wangchuk ji’s struggle. My salute to his courage.”

Kejriwal was accompanied by AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi AAP convenor Saurabh Bharadwaj.

Sixty-year-old engineer-turned-activist Wangchuk began his fast on June 28 as part of a larger agitation being fuelled by a social media movement .

The appearance of politicians at Jantar Mantar came on a day when the National Testing Agency released the final answer key for the NEET-UG 2026 exam retest held on June 21 following the scrapping of the May 3 exam over alleged irregularities and leak.

In a post on X, the NTA on Thursday evening said, “The NEET-UG 2026 Final Answer Key has been released. Visit the official portal to check the Final Answer Key.”

After releasing the scanned images of OMR sheets of candidates who appeared in the NEET UG 2026 re-exam on June 21, the NTA had closed the window to challenge OMR responses on Wednesday.

Students will have to pay Rs 200 per challenge. The Rs 200 fee will be refunded if a student’s challenge is upheld, the NTA said.

The window to challenge the provisional answer key for the re-exam had closed earlier on June 28.

Earlier this month, the NTA started the NEET-UG 2026 fee refund process after urging the students to update their bank account details on the official portal.

On June 21, as the NEET-UG 2026 retest was conducted without major glitches, the NTA had credited the whole-of-government effort and thanked seven lakh officials involved in the mega exercise.
