Kolkata, Aug 25 (IANS) A complaint has been lodged against Bengali actor and former Trinamool Congress MLA, Soham Chakraborty, for allegedly beating up a carpenter, said the police on Tuesday. The complainant, Rajkapur Sharma, approached the Behala police station on Monday.

According to the complaint, the carpenter was allegedly beaten up on Monday when he went to Soham’s house to ask for outstanding payment for some work he had done at the actor’s house.

In his written complaint to the police, Rajkapur said that on May 12, he got the job of making a cupboard at Soham’s house in Behala area of south Kolkata. A contract of Rs 55,000 was signed and an advance of Rs 30,000 was given. After about 80 per cent of that work was completed, the carpenter was given the job of making two more cupboards.

Rajkapur alleged that work was also about 50 per cent done. When he did not get any more money, he went to ask for his dues. He alleged that the actor abused him at that time and even assaulted him. He also mentioned the name of the actor’s bodyguard Totan Sardar in the complaint. The actor and his bodyguard have been accused of abusing, threatening to kill and snatching his phone.

The carpenter said that a security guard of Soham called him on Sunday and asked him to come to his home. Accordingly, he went there on Monday. He was kept waiting for a long time and told he would get his money. Then, unable to bear the wait any longer, he asked for the outstanding money. He was mistreated and alleged that his mobile phone was taken away, and later he was severely beaten and pushed out of the house.

After that, he went to Behala police station and filed a written complaint of assault against Soham Chakraborty. The actor has not yet responded to this allegation. The police said that an enquiry into the matter has started based on the complaint.

Earlier, too, several allegations have been made against Soham Chakraborty. Last July, the actor was accused of cheating a businessman of Rs 68 lakh, threatening to kill him and breach of trust.

Sheikh Shahid Imam, a resident of Arambagh in Hooghly district and the head of ‘Sonam Movies’ and businessman, filed a complaint at the Charu Market police station in Tollygunge of south Kolkata against the actor.

Before that, when he was an MLA, there were allegations of differences, threats and beating up of workers of a restaurant in the city while shooting a movie.
