Appreciation shown for Queensland’s multicultural community groups

August 21, Brisbane: Queensland’s multicultural spirit and colour was on show at Parliament House this week with more than350 people attending the 2026 Celebrating Multicultural Communities Reception.

About 180 community organisations were represented and thanked by Premier David Crisafulli and Ministerfor Multiculturalism Fiona Simpson for their work in uniting and shaping modern Queensland.

Showing our State’s diversity, almost one in five Queenslanders were born overseas, and Wednesdaynight’s reception was held to celebrate that as part of Multicultural Queensland Month.

Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland chief executive Lisa Ward said it was wonderful to see so manycommunity leaders and organisations represented at Parliament House.

“We particularly appreciate the opportunity to come together with the Premier, the Minister and theQueensland Government to celebrate our diversity and acknowledge the significant contribution of

Queensland’s multicultural communities,” Ms Ward said.

“Multicultural organisations play a vital role in supporting this contribution, building connection andbelonging, and ensuring people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to participate, contribute andthrive.

“We thank the Premier and Minister for recognising and celebrating the important work of Queensland’smulticultural organisations and the communities they represent.”

Multicultural Queensland Month runs throughout this month and features the Queensland Government’sMulticultural Queensland Awards, to be held Friday 28 August.
