The growing potential for trade and business cooperation between India’s gems and jewellery industry and Queensland’s jewellery sector was highlighted at a Business-to-Business (B2B) networking event in Brisbane.
Organised by the Consulate General of India in Brisbane on August 24, the event brought together a visiting delegation from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), India, and representatives of Queensland’s jewellery and gemstone industry.
The networking session provided Indian jewellery manufacturers and exporters with an opportunity to engage directly with importers, wholesalers and buyers from Queensland and explore avenues for commercial partnerships and sector-specific cooperation.
Addressing the gathering, the Consul General, Neetu Bhagotia, highlighted India’s strong position in the global gems and jewellery industry, particularly in diamonds, coloured gemstones, gold jewellery and precision manufacturing. She also underlined the opportunities for Queensland businesses to leverage India’s scale, quality and competitive pricing.
The event brought together representatives of key business and industry organisations, including the Queensland Chamber of Commerce, Australia India Business Council and Australian Industry & Trade Association. Several Queensland-based industry players, including Michael Hill, Salt Wholesale, Goldsmiths Australia, Pacific Jewellers and Omie Vogue, also participated.
The discussions enabled businesses from both sides to understand market opportunities, explore potential partnerships and strengthen commercial links between India’s gems and jewellery industry and Queensland.
The initiative highlighted the scope for deeper business-to-business engagement and greater trade between the two markets, adding momentum to the broader economic relationship between Australia and India.
