Shivpuri, Sep 1 (IANS) Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday inspected the newly constructed Amrit Bharat railway station and an under-construction railway overbridge in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri and inaugurated development projects worth more than Rs 17.50 crore.

Scindia, who is also the Lok Sabha MP from Guna constituency, reviewed passenger facilities and the ongoing redevelopment work at Shivpuri railway station.

He also inspected the under-construction Pohri railway overbridge and took stock of its progress.

The Union Minister said the modern railway station, recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would improve rail connectivity and passenger facilities in the region.

“Projects such as the Amrit Bharat railway station and the railway overbridge will strengthen Shivpuri’s trade, tourism and connectivity and give fresh momentum to the development of the region,” Scindia added.

During his inspection of the railway station, Union Minister Scindia also honoured Railway Protection Force (RPF) Assistant Sub-Inspector Birendra Tiwari for saving the life of a woman who nearly fell into the gap between a train and the platform.

On August 30, 35-year-old Shivpuri resident Nirmala Devi lost her balance while boarding Gwalior-Bina Passenger Train No. 51884.

Tiwari, who was on duty, immediately caught hold of her and pulled her to safety.

Praising Tiwari’s bravery and sense of duty, Union Minister Scindia said, “A woman’s life is safe today because of your bravery. No amount of gratitude is enough for what you have done.”

He added that society needed courageous and sensitive people like the RPF officer.

During his visit, Union Minister Scindia inaugurated a 50-seater pre-matric boys’ hostel for Scheduled Caste students, a Primary Health Centre at Tanpur, an electricity substation at Singhnivas and the Tharra sub-tehsil.

The hostel was constructed at a cost of Rs 4.99 crore, while the health centre and electricity substation cost Rs 2.95 crore and Rs 2.77 crore, respectively.

The Tharra sub-tehsil was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.24 crore.

He also performed the ‘bhoomi pujan’ for municipal road construction works worth Rs 5 crore and a government middle school building at Singhnivas, estimated to cost Rs 51 lakh.

Speaking about the hostel, Scindia said education was an important means of social empowerment and referred to the vision of B.R. Ambedkar.

“Ensuring that the benefits of development, from education and healthcare to electricity, roads and administrative facilities, reach every family in Shivpuri is our priority,” he added.

The Union Minister said that the projects would strengthen basic public services and provide fresh momentum to development in Shivpuri and the surrounding areas.
