Hyderabad, Sep 9 (IANS) Telangana Legislative Council on Tuesday suspended BRS MLCs Tata Madhusudhan alias Madhu and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy for making derogatory and abusive remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

A motion was passed in the Council on Tuesday evening, suspending the members for the rest of the monsoon session.

Council Chairman G. Sukhender Reddy announced the passing of the resolution, which was moved by Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu.

The House was adjourned for the day after suspending two members of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Later, the Council premises witnessed chaos as marshals whisked away Tata Madhu and Naveen Reddy as they were trying to address media persons at the media point.

Marshals told the MLCs that since they have been suspended, they can’t be allowed to speak on the premises. Tata Madhu was whisked away by marshals in a vehicle.

The MLCs had come to attend the Council session after Nampally court rejected the police petition for their judicial remand.

Both were arrested on Tuesday morning, and the police produced them before the court in the evening. The court, however, ordered their release on furnishing personal bonds.

Congress MLC and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud demanded immediate suspension of the BRS MLCs, saying they should not be allowed to remain in the House after making such disgraceful remarks against a Dalit Speaker.

The Council suspended the BRS MLCs after the Assembly unanimously passed a resolution and sent the same to the Council for action.

The Assembly recorded its ‘strongest condemnation and profound disapproval of the highly derogatory, insulting and unparliamentary utterances’ purported to have been made by Tata Madhusudhan and Naveen Reddy within the Assembly precincts to the Speaker on Monday,

“This House also condemns in unequivocal words the indecent behaviour of the above two members by removing the t-shirts in public before women which, besides being highly objectionable, amounts to outrage of the modesty of the women present at the place of the incident,” reads the resolution.

“This House considers such conduct to be wholly unbecoming of a Member of the Legislative Council and seriously prejudicial to the dignity, authority and constitutional position of the Hon’ble Speaker and to the dignity, privileges and institutional integrity of the Telangana Legislative Assembly; This House declares that no political disagreement, personal grievance or difference of opinion can justify conduct intended or having the effect of lowering the dignity and authority of the Presiding Officer or impairing the orderly functioning of the Legislative Assembly,” it said.

The House resolved that the Leader of the Opposition, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, should own responsibility for the said unbecoming conduct of the members of his party and tender unconditional apology to the Speaker in the interest of institutional integrity, decency and decorum of this House.

A copy of the resolution, together with the notice of breach of privilege issued by the members, the material placed before the House and the proceedings relating thereto, were forwarded to the Chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council for consideration and for taking appropriate action.
