Vijayawada, Sep 18 (IANS) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against nine accused before the Special NIA Court, Vijayawada, in an online radicalisation case.

The chargesheet has been filed against Mohammad Rehmatullah Shariff, Mohammed Danish, Mirza Sohail Baig, Lucky Ahmad, Jishan Abdul Majid, Mir Ashif Ali, Abdul Salaam, Sharuk Khan and Shaikh Faiz ur Rehman, all alleged members and supporters of the terrorist organisation ISIS.

They have been charged under sections 61(2) read with 3(5) and 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and sections 13(1), 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the NIA said in a statement issued on Friday.

The case was initially registered on March 23, 2026, at Vijayawada II Town Police Station, NTR Commissionerate, Vijayawada, under sections 113(3), 152, 196(1)(a) and 196(2) read with section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, section 66F of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and sections 13, 18, 18A, 18B, 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

So far, 11 accused persons and a child in conflict with the law have been arrested in the case.

Investigation has established that the accused persons, who are members and supporters of the proscribed terrorist organisation ISIS, entered into a larger conspiracy to support the activities of ISIS, primarily through social media platforms like Instagram, with the intention of establishing a caliphate in India through violent Jihad, thereby disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India, the Central agency said.

It has been established that the accused persons motivated and radicalised gullible youth to join violent terrorist activities, and also planned and prepared for making explosives and undertaking weapon training. In pursuance of the conspiracy, the accused persons also developed and tested a secure communication application for secretly communicating among themselves as part of their preparation for the violent terrorist activities, it said.

Further investigation in the case against the remaining accused persons and other suspects is in progress, the NIA statement added.
