The Consul General, Kajori Biswas, addressed the event titled “Women in Sport: Powering Australia–India Connections,” organised by the Centre for Australia India Relations in collaboration with the Government of Western Australia.
In her address, the Consul General highlighted the growing influence of women in the world of sport and acknowledged the outstanding achievements of Indian women athletes in recent years. She noted that events such as this create an important platform for sharing ideas and exploring opportunities for deeper cooperation between Australia and India in the field of women’s sport.
The programme brought together government representatives, policymakers, and members of the sporting community to discuss ways of strengthening sporting ties and encouraging greater participation of women in sports.
Among the dignitaries present were Senator Nita Green, Senator for Queensland and Assistant Minister for Northern Australia, Tourism and Pacific Island Affairs; Senator Varun Ghosh, Senator for Western Australia and Chair of the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee as well as Chair of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights; Dr Parwinder Kaur MLC, Deputy Chair of Committees; and Chad Anderson, Director General of the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport.
The event also saw participation from representatives and leaders of several sporting organisations from across Australia and Western Australia, highlighting the growing momentum behind initiatives aimed at supporting women in sport.
Speakers and participants emphasised the role of sport as a bridge between nations and discussed how increased collaboration could help advance opportunities for women athletes in both Australia and India.
