Theft and robbery-related crime increased by 2.4 per cent across the Sunshine Coast last year, rising from 6368 reported incidents in 2016 to 6527.
Queensland Police Service crime data reveals the worst hit Coast suburb was Maroochydore, with 1100 theft and robbery-related incidents. However, that was down on 1125 incidents the previous year.
Nambour was the next worst hit suburb with 437 incidents (down from 453) while theft increased in Caloundra, going from 226 incidents in 2016 to 289 last year.
The largest spike in theft related crime was recorded in Peregian Springs, with incidents increasing by 92 per cent last year.
Theft was also up markedly in Beerwah, with incidents rising by 50 per cent (from 92 in 2016 to 138 in 2017), and in Mountain Creek, which reported a 43 per cent increase.
Significant increases were also reported in Peregian Beach (up 37 per cent), Noosaville (up 25 per cent), Coolum Beach (23 per cent), Bli Bli (26 per cent)
The largest reductions in theft came in Aroona (down 30 per cent), Maleny (down 32 per cent) and Mudjimba (34 per cent.
