Srinagar, June 22 (IANS) A 4-year-old baby died after falling into a water tank in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, officials said.

The incident was reported from the Renan Kralgund area of Kupwara.

The deceased has been identified as Sibra Javid, 4, daughter of Javid Iqbal Lone. Officials said the minor fell into the water tank during the afternoon hours while playing near her residence.

Following the incident, family members rushed to the spot, took out the child from the tank, and rushed her to the Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara.

However, doctors at the hospital declared her dead on arrival, officials said.

The incident has left the family in shock and mourning. Meanwhile, police have taken cognisance of the matter and initiated the necessary proceedings.

Monday’s tragic death of a baby followed the deaths of a retired police officer and his son in Baramulla district.

An accident at Rajarwani resulted in the death of the driver, Syed Imtiyaz Hussain Shah, 25, on the spot, while his father, Syed Ahmad Shah, 68, son of Syed Alam Hussain Shah and a retired Sub-Inspector of Police, sustained critical injuries in the accident and was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital Uri for treatment.

However, he later succumbed to injuries, taking the death toll in the accident to two.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.

Road accidents in hilly districts of J&K occur mainly because of over-speeding, road rage, overtaking, or bad roads.
