The High Commissioner of India, Gopal Baglay, and the Consul General, Neetu M Bhagotia held meetings with representatives of the Indian community in Cairns during their visit on December 13–14, as part of ongoing outreach and engagement efforts.
The interactive session featured constructive discussions on community engagement, shared priorities, and avenues for closer cooperation. The exchanges were described as productive and forward-looking, reflecting strong mutual interest in deepening collaboration.
During the interaction, both the High Commissioner and the Consul General praised the Indian community for its meaningful contributions and its important role in strengthening India–Australia relations. They also highlighted the community’s contribution to enhancing people-to-people ties and fostering closer bilateral understanding.
The meeting reaffirmed the importance of regular engagement with the Indian diaspora in regional Australia and recognised the community’s role as a vital link between the two nations.
