The Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) will hold its first members’ meeting of 2026 on April 1 at the Tzu Chi Foundation Brisbane Community Centre, focusing on the theme of passing on culture within culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
The informative and interactive session will address key challenges faced by CALD parents in Australia, including raising children while maintaining cultural identity, navigating intergenerational differences, and understanding child protection and family safety frameworks.
Guest speaker Lilian Fleuri is scheduled to lead a presentation on raising bilingual and multilingual children. The session will explore language acquisition and the role of community languages, followed by a panel discussion and question-and-answer segment.
Organisers said the meeting aims to provide meaningful insights for parents and community members while fostering dialogue on cultural continuity and community wellbeing. The event is expected to bring together ECCQ members and stakeholders for an evening of engagement and shared learning.
