Jaipur, May 20 (IANS) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Wednesday demanded that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi publicly apologise to the nation, alleging that his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah insulted the country’s highest constitutional offices and hurt the sentiments of 140 crore Indians.

The Rajasthan Chief Minister strongly condemned the recent remarks made by Rahul Gandhi — the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha — against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling them “highly objectionable and condemnable”.

In a statement, the Rajasthan Chief Minister said that ideological differences are natural in a democracy, but using indecent language against the country’s top leadership reflected the Congress party’s frustration and its “declining political mindset”.

“In a democracy, ideological differences can exist, but such indecent language towards the country’s top leadership is a testament to the Congress party’s frustration and its political mindset heading towards continuous decline,” CM Bhajan Lal Sharma said.

“The opposition, having lost its decorum and mental balance in political opposition, is only working to divide society and spread anarchy,” the Chief Minister added.

CM Sharma further stated that Rahul Gandhi should immediately issue a public apology to the nation for “insulting the country’s highest constitutional offices and hurting the sentiments of 140 crore citizens”.

“The disrespectful remark made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodiji and the Hon’ble Home Minister Shri @AmitShahji is highly condemnable,” Bhajan Lal Sharma said.

Rahul Gandhi has triggered a fresh political controversy after calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah “traitors” during a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli district.

The Congress MP from Raebareli accused the ruling BJP and the RSS of allegedly working against the interests of the country and attacking the Constitution.

The remarks quickly sparked a political debate, with the Congress defending Gandhi’s statements and asserting that they reflected the anger and frustration being felt by people across the country.
