Rajasthan family dispute: Infant dies after mother allegedly feeds her acid

Jaipur, May 20 (IANS) An eight-month-old girl succumbed during treatment in Alwar after allegedly being forced to consume acid by her mother in Bhiwadi.

According to the father’s complaint, the incident followed an argument over the woman wanting to visit her parental home.

The minor died during treatment after allegedly being forced to consume acid by her mother in Bhiwadi’s Labour Colony area of Khairthal-Tijara district.

Police have launched an investigation following a complaint filed by the child’s father.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the child’s father, Mohit, was at work.

Mohit, a marketing executive at a solar company in Bhiwadi, alleged that his wife, Sapna, had been insisting on going to her parents’ home, but he had refused.

He alleged that, following an argument over the issue, Sapna forced their eight-month-old daughter to consume acid while she was alone with the child at their rented home in the Labour Colony near Captain Chowk.

Mohit said his sister, who lives nearby, informed him after noticing the child’s condition deteriorating.

The baby was first taken to the Bhiwadi District Hospital and later referred to Alwar for advanced treatment.

He further alleged that, while the child was being shifted from Bhiwadi to Alwar, his wife admitted to forcing acid on the infant.

The child succumbed during treatment on Wednesday, two days after the incident.

“She was my only daughter,” Mohit said, demanding strict action against his wife.

Professor Dr Charu Garg of Alwar Medical College said the infant was admitted to the hospital at around 7:30 p.m. on May 18 in critical condition.

“The acid had severely damaged multiple internal organs. The child’s windpipe and food pipe were badly affected, and there was continuous internal bleeding,” Dr Garg said.

Despite efforts by doctors, the child could not be saved, she added.

Police said the matter is under investigation.
