Jaipur, May 25 (IANS) The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a police sub-inspector posted at Nai Mandi Gharsana Police Station in Sri Ganganagar district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 during a trap operation.

According to an official statement issued by the Office of the Director General, ACB Rajasthan, the accused has been identified as Rameshwar Lal, serving as a Sub-Inspector at Nai Mandi Gharsana Police Station.

Director General of Police (ACB) Govind Gupta said the bureau had received a complaint alleging that the officer demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant in exchange for filing a Final Report (FR) in a case related to him.

The complainant reportedly approached the ACB after the alleged demand and informed officials that he had requested the officer to reduce the amount.

Following negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept Rs 20,000 as a bribe. Acting on the complaint and under instructions from ACB Headquarters, the ACB Outpost in Bikaner initiated verification and laid a trap to catch the accused.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police (ACB) Narayan Togas and led by Additional Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar of the ACB Outpost, Bikaner. During the trap proceedings, the ACB team caught the accused red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe amount of Rs 20,000.

Officials said the tainted cash was recovered from the accused at the spot. Following the arrest, the accused was taken into custody, and further legal proceedings were initiated.

ACB officials said interrogation of the accused and additional investigation are currently underway under the supervision of Additional Director General of Police (ACB) Smita Srivastava.

A case has been registered against the accused under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the bureau is continuing its investigation to ascertain all aspects of the matter.

The ACB reiterated its appeal to citizens to report instances of bribery and corruption, assuring that strict action would continue against public servants found involved in corrupt practices.

The bureau has intensified anti-corruption operations across Rajasthan in recent months as part of its ongoing crackdown on graft in government departments.
