At CM Adhikari’s ‘janata darbar’, elderly couple cheated by Sona Papu seek help

Kolkata, May 25 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday gave a patient hearing to an elderly couple who had been cheated by the recently arrested land mafia-promoters Biswajit Poddar a.k.a Sona Papu and Joy Kamdar, and assured them of his personal intervention to resolve the matter.

The Chief Minister interacted with people and listened to their grievances at his pre-announced ‘Janatar Darbare (People’s Court)’ session.

Probir Mukhopadhyay and his wife, both senior citizens and residents of the Chief Minister’s constituency, Bhabanipur, appeared at the session and narrated their story on how they were cheated by Pappu and Kamdar.

Mukhopadhyay told the Chief Minister that he gave his ancestral property to Pappu and Kamdar for real estate promotion purposes, but after completion of the project, the Papu-Kamdar duo did not provide him with a residential flat as promised in the agreement.

He also told the Chief Minister that, after not being given the flat as promised, he was forced to stay in a rented accommodation. The Chief Minister gave the senior citizen couple a patient hearing and promised to take up the matter personally and find a solution at the earliest.

Mukhopadhyay, an above-80 senior citizen, was visibly relaxed following the assurance from the Chief Minister. “I am feeling much relaxed now. After the assurance has come from the Chief Minister himself,” he told media persons after meeting the CM.

At the “People’s Court” on Monday, a group of “untainted teachers” who lost jobs following the subsequent orders first by Calcutta High Court and then by the Supreme Court over the multi-crore cash-for-school job case in West Bengal, pleaded for some solution so that they get back their jobs, which they lost without any fault on their part.

The Chief Minister also assured them of looking into their matter seriously and sympathetically and making an all-out effort to come out with a concrete solution.

At the “People’s Court” programme, the Chief Minister was accompanied by senior state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders like Locket Chatterjee and Sashi Agnihotri.
