Sydney, June 24 (Australia India News Newsdesk): The Consulate General of India in Sydney, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, in association with Sri Om Care, celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga at the Glenwood Community Hub on June 21.
The event focused on this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” with a programme specially designed for senior citizens. Participants took part in chair yoga, hatha yoga, breathing exercises and guided meditation aimed at improving mobility, balance, relaxation and overall wellbeing.
The session was conducted by Dolly Somaiya, an advanced yoga teacher from the Art of Living, who guided participants through gentle and accessible practices suitable for older adults. Around 50 senior citizens enthusiastically joined the programme, embracing yoga as a means of enhancing vitality, healthy ageing and community connection.
The event was attended by Councillor Mohinder Singh of Blacktown City Council and Warren Eric Kirby MP, Member for Riverstone. Staff from the Consulate General of India, Sydney, were also present, highlighting the continued collaboration between Indian institutions and community organisations in promoting yoga and holistic wellness across Australia.
