NC MLA accuses J&K Deputy CM Choudhary of breaking CM Omar Abdullah’s trust

Srinagar, June 30 (IANS) A ruling National Conference (NC) MLA on Tuesday accused Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, of ganging up with rivals of the NC and breaking the trust of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.

Ruling NC MLA, Javaid Iqbal Choudhary on Tuesday said that Deputy Chief Minister Choudhary has broken the trust of the Chief Minister as well as the public, by joining hands with their party’s rivals after Omar Abdullah had directed him to set right the wrongs in the allocation of funds.

Budhal Javid Choudhary slammed Surinder Choudhary for what he called his dictatorial and authoritarian attitude. “He has broken the trust of the CM as well as the public,” he said.

Budhal Javid Choudhary added that the Deputy Chief Minister was directed by the Chief Minister during a meeting at Dachigam on June 3 to set right the wrongs in the allocation of funds as well as other matters.

“What the Deputy CM did is shocking! He didn’t rectify the mistakes but instead joined hands with our rivals to teach us a lesson for speaking against him,” he said.

He said that the Deputy CM is threatening MLAs with expulsion from the NC if they raise their voice against him. He further alleged that the Deputy CM has allocated almost all funds of Rajouri district to his own constituency, Nowshera.

“Out of Rs 33.71 crore expenditure under SASCI in 2025-26, Rs 21.47 crore has been utilised in the Nowshera segment,” he said, adding that Rs 9.22 crore allocated to district Rajouri under the scheme has also been diverted to his segment.

Budhal Javid Choudhary claimed that out of Rs 1.28 crore utilised under the Non-Functional Buildings scheme in 2025-26, Rs 1.03 crore has gone solely to the Deputy CM’s segment.

He also claimed that works worth Rs 200 crore under the UT Capex Budget have been accorded administrative approval for 2025–26.

“Bridges worth Rs 137 crore have been sanctioned in his constituency, but not a single bridge has been sanctioned in other segments,” he said.

Another NC MLA belonging to the Valley, according to reports, had spoken against the Deputy Chief Minister during the Dachigam meeting on June 3 in presence of Omar Abdullah.

Party sources said the MLA had accused the Deputy Chief Minister of trying to victimise a government official related to the NC MLA.
