India showcased its candidates for key positions at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and sought regional support at a lunch reception hosted in Brisbane for delegates attending the 49th Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Preparatory Group meeting for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026.
The reception, organised by the Consulate General of India in Brisbane, was held from August 24 to 28. It provided an opportunity to present India’s candidatures for key positions at the ITU and engage with representatives from the Asia-Pacific region.
Consul General of India in Brisbane Neetu Bhagotia hosted the reception to formally introduce Dr Revathi, India’s candidate for Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau (BR) of the ITU for the 2027–2030 term, as well as present India’s candidature for the ITU Council for the same period.
Addressing the delegates, Bhagotia highlighted India’s commitment to strengthening global digital cooperation, advancing inclusive connectivity and contributing constructively to the ITU’s mandate.
Delegates were also briefed on India’s vision for the Radiocommunication Bureau and its priorities in the evolving telecommunications sector. The discussions underlined the importance of technical expertise, regulatory experience and leadership in addressing emerging challenges in global communications.
The reception provided India with an opportunity to engage with representatives from across the Asia-Pacific region and strengthen cooperation ahead of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026.
India’s outreach comes as it seeks regional support for Dr Revathi’s candidature for Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau and for its candidature to the ITU Council, both for the 2027–2030 term.
