Perth, October 9 (Australia India News Newsdesk)
Members of the Indian community in Western Australia gathered at Fremantle Port to welcome Indian Coast Guard ship Shaurya and honour its personnel during a reception marking the close ties between Australia and India.
The event followed the vessel’s 12-day voyage from Chennai to Perth and was organised by the Indian Society of WA (ISWA), according to a social media post by the organisation.
The reception recognised the contribution of the Indian Coast Guard to regional engagement and provided an opportunity for community members to meet the officers and sailors serving aboard the vessel.
ISWA said the gathering offered an informal setting for the Indian diaspora to interact with the crew and learn about their experiences at sea. Performances by Coast Guard personnel also gave attendees a glimpse of their interests and talents beyond their professional duties.
In its post, the society thanked Kajari Biswas, Consul General of India in Perth, for hosting the gathering. It also acknowledged Commander Amit Chaturvedi and his crew for their hospitality and warm welcome to the guests.
The organisation said the Indian community in Western Australia appreciated the opportunity to meet the personnel, hear about their work and recognise the role of the Coast Guard in strengthening ties between the two countries.
The visit highlighted how community engagement, alongside professional cooperation, can deepen people-to-people connections between Australia and India.
