Ayurveda’s contribution to health and wellbeing was highlighted at a celebration held at Western Sydney University in Parramatta on October 7, organised by the Consulate General of India in Sydney in collaboration with India’s Ministry of Ayush and the Australasian Association of Ayurveda.
Consul General of India Dr S. Janakiraman welcomed participants and spoke about Ayurveda’s relevance to everyday health and wellbeing. He also outlined initiatives undertaken by the Government of India to promote the traditional Indian system of medicine internationally.
A key development at the event was the appointment of Dr Asmita Wele as Western Sydney University’s Ayurveda Chair. The appointment is expected to strengthen Ayurveda’s academic and research presence in Australia.
The celebration brought together local councillors, Ayurveda practitioners, academics and members of the Indian community to recognise the traditional healthcare system and its growing academic engagement in Australia.
