The Australia India Business Council (AIBC) national leadership met with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on 18 November to advance economic cooperation between Queensland, Australia, and India’s powerhouse state of Maharashtra.

During the meeting, the AIBC National Chair and his delegation discussed expanding commercial opportunities for Australian businesses in sectors such as critical technologies, clean energy, agriculture, education and food processing. The delegation outlined AIBC’s interest in hosting a Maharashtra Expo in Australia, aimed at showcasing trade and investment prospects to Australian companies.

The AIBC team also extended a formal invitation to Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis to attend AIBC’s 40th Anniversary Celebration in Australia next year.

In response, Mr Fadnavis welcomed deeper collaboration and expressed Maharashtra’s readiness to host an Australian business delegation early next year. He emphasised the state’s strong interest in connecting with Australian expertise and partnerships, particularly in emerging and future-focused sectors.

The meeting reinforces AIBC’s growing role in shaping Australia–India business engagement, with Queensland expected to benefit from expanding ties with Maharashtra’s innovation-driven economy.
