Jaipur, June 30 (IANS) The 12-hour sit-in protest staged by the family of slain dacoit Jagan Gurjar outside the mortuary of JLN Hospital in Ajmer came to an end on Tuesday evening after the district administration agreed to the family’s key demands in writing.

The protest, led by Jagan Gurjar’s son Asaram Gurjar, began at 7 am and concluded around 7 pm after negotiations between the administration and the family. According to officials, the administration accepted a five-point charter of demands submitted by the family, including the provision of security to family members.

Following the agreement, Jagan’s associate, Prahlad Singh, read the terms of the settlement to the protesters. After consulting family members, Asaram announced that the agitation was being called off. The five demands accepted by the administration included security for Jagan Gurjar’s family, transfer of Jagan Gurjar’s brother, Pappu Gurjar, from Ajmer jail to another jail, a probe against jail officials, security during the funeral, and an inquiry against the Dholpur SHO.

In response to these demands, the administration has assured the security of Jagan Gurjar’s family. His son will be provided with a Personal Security Officer (PSO) until the investigation is completed. The family will also be informed of the progress of the probe, and action will be taken against any other persons found to be involved in the case.

Jagan Gurjar’s brother, Pappu Gurjar, will be shifted from Ajmer High-Security Jail to another prison. He will be transferred either to Mathura Jail or Bharatpur Jail, as decided by the authorities. The administration has ordered an inquiry into the role of jail officials and prison staff. Appropriate action will be taken based on the investigation’s findings.

Pappu Gurjar, along with Lal Singh and Pan Singh, will be provided adequate security to enable them to attend Jagan Gurjar’s last rites, and an investigation has also been ordered against the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) in Dholpur district. If it is established that Jagan Gurjar was falsely implicated in any case and sent to jail, disciplinary action will be initiated against the officer.

The written assurance from the administration brought the protest to an end, following which the family agreed to accept the body and proceed with the funeral. He said Jagan Gurjar’s last rites would be performed on Wednesday at Bhavutipura village in Dholpur district.

Earlier in the day, Asaram submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through Tehsildar Om Singh Lakhawat and Circle Officer Manish Badgurjar, seeking action on the family’s demands. Throughout the day, police and administrative officials held multiple rounds of talks with the protesters, who had insisted on receiving written assurances before ending the sit-in.

During the protest, Asaram alleged that his father’s killing was a pre-planned conspiracy and claimed that a single inmate could not have carried out the murder alone. Without naming any individual, he questioned how the accused, whom he described as physically much smaller than his father, could have overpowered him without assistance. He further alleged that there had been earlier attempts on his father’s life while he was lodged in Sewar Jail and claimed there was collusion by jail authorities in the latest incident.

Earlier in the day, Asaram had issued a provocative statement, claiming that he is Jagan Gurjar’s blood and knows how to kill by entering someone’s home and how to kill inside a jail, adding that the government will have to answer for this.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the murder is continuing. Officials recorded statements of jail personnel who were on duty at the time of the incident, including Deputy Jail Superintendent Bhanwar Singh. Jagan Gurjar, a native of Bhavutipura village in Dholpur’s Dang region, was allegedly murdered inside Ajmer High-Security Jail on June 29.

According to the police, Vishnu, an accused in the Kuldeep Jaghina murder case, allegedly strangled Gurjar to death with a towel. Both inmates were lodged in the same high-security barrack at the time of the incident. Confirming the end of the protest, Additional SP (City) Himanshu Jangid said the administration and the family reached a written agreement after day-long discussions, following which the family withdrew the agitation.
