Ajmer, May 28 (IANS) Police have cracked the murder case involving four people, including a former sarpanch, his mother, and his son, whose bodies were later burned inside a Scorpio SUV in Ajmer.

According to police, the former sarpanch’s first wife, daughter, and minor son killed the victims by slitting their throats using farming tools before attempting to disguise the crime as a vehicle accident. The incident occurred around Thursday morning in Shrirampura village, under the Borada police station limits.

The deceased have been identified as former sarpanch Ramsingh Chaudhary; his mother, and former sarpanch, Pusi Devi; his second wife, Surgyan Devi; and his niece, Mahima.

Three bodies were found inside the rear compartment of the Scorpio, while Surgyan Devi’s partially burnt body was discovered in an adjacent field. Ajmer Superintendent of Police (SP) Harshvardhan Agarwala said Ramsingh’s first wife, Sunita (45), has been arrested, while his 19-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son have been detained.

Police said the accused allegedly loaded the bodies into the Scorpio and set the vehicle ablaze to make the murders appear accidental.

According to the investigation, Ramsingh allegedly subjected his first wife and children to prolonged physical and mental abuse. Police said he frequently assaulted them while under the influence of alcohol. The son was reportedly beaten regularly, and Ramsingh allegedly assaulted his daughter on Wednesday evening.

During interrogation, police learned that later that night, Sunita, along with her daughter and minor son, allegedly attacked Ramsingh inside the house and slit his throat using a farm tool. The son then siphoned diesel from a tractor parked on the property.

Police said the accused subsequently placed the body in the Scorpio and drove nearly 500 metres from the house, where they poured diesel on the vehicle and set it on fire. The mother and daughter allegedly remained at home, while the minor son later returned.

Investigators further revealed that after the incident, Sunita allegedly continued to weep and mourn in front of villagers to avoid suspicion. Police also noted that the minor son appeared unusually calm and showed little visible distress.

Kasir sarpanch Bhagchand Chaudhary informed the police that around 6:00 AM, they received news of a vehicle fire on the Shrirampura road. Upon reaching the spot, villagers found Surgyan Devi lying in a nearby field after reportedly being pulled out of the burning vehicle by a truck driver.

With help from residents, she was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Police used water tankers brought from nearby areas to extinguish the flames engulfing the Scorpio. Senior officials, including the SP, reached the scene shortly afterwards and launched an investigation that ultimately led to the arrests.
