New Delhi, 1 September 2026: India Vision Institute (IVI) today launched a national school eye health campaign that will provide vision screening and access to corrective spectacles for 20,000 children in government and tribal schools in four major cities across India.
Mrs Anna Minns, wife of the Premier of New South Wales, the Hon. Chris Minns MP, launched the campaign at Nava Hind Girls Senior Secondary School in New Delhi, where she interacted with students, observed a vision screening session and presented spectacles to schoolgirls identified with uncorrected refractive errors.
The campaign adds to IVI’s continuing commitment to improving access to eye care among underserved communities and supports the goals of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) as well as align with the World Health Organization’s SPECS 2030 initiative, which supports the global target of increasing effective refractive error coverage by 40 percentage points by 2030.
Mrs Minns said, “Every child should have the opportunity to learn and grow with clear vision. I am delighted to launch this initiative and meet some of the children it will benefit.”
IVI CEO Vinod Daniel said, “A child with an uncorrected vision problem can struggle to read the board, follow lessons and participate confidently in the classroom, often without anyone recognising the reason. Timely screening and a pair of corrective spectacles can change all that. Through this campaign, we will reach 20,000 children who may otherwise have limited access to eye care and ensure that poor vision does not become a barrier to their education or future.”
“The campaign, covering Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata, will give practical expression to IVI’s World Sight Day commitment and contribute to the wider effort to increase access to refractive error services and spectacles by 2030,” added Mr Daniel.
Since its inception in 2012, IVI has reached over two million underprivileged people across India, including children in government schools, through its vision screening, spectacle distribution and eye health programs.
