Ulaanbaatar, April 1 (IANS) India’s Vishvanath Suresh and Sachin delivered impressive performances to secure victory for the country on Day 3 of the Asian Boxing Championships 2026 on Wednesday, advancing to the next rounds in their respective weight categories.

Competing in the men’s 50kg division, Vishvanath Suresh showcased exceptional technical ability and ring awareness to outclass Kyrgyzstan’s Bekzat Ergeshov. The Indian boxer dominated the bout from start to finish, earning a comprehensive 5-0 unanimous decision from the judges.

Suresh now faces a stiff challenge in the next round as he is set to take on Kazakhstan’s Sanzhar Tashkenbay. Tashkenbay enters the bout with an impressive record, being the reigning World Champion (2025) as well as a World Cup winner the same year.

In the men’s 60kg category, Sachin also impressed with a composed performance against Mongolia’s Buyandalai Bayarkhuu. In what turned out to be a closely fought contest, Sachin maintained his composure under pressure and executed his strategy effectively to secure a 4-1 split decision victory.

Sachin will next square off against Chinese Taipei’s Cheng-Wei Lee in the upcoming round.

The Asian Boxing Championships 2026 features top boxing talent from across the continent, with each bout playing a crucial role in shaping the road to the medal rounds.

On Day 1, Preeti Pawar and Deepak from India delivered an impressive start.

In the women’s 54kg category, Preeti, a gold medallist at the World Boxing Cup Finals, delivered a strong performance to win 5-0 unanimously over Kazakhstan’s Elina Bazarova, a former Asian U22 champion (2025).

In the men’s 70kg category, Deepak, who earned a silver medal at the Boxam Elite International 2026 and a bronze at the Asian Youth Boxing Championships 2022, performed confidently to narrowly defeat Uzbekistan’s Khavasbek Asadullaev with a 3-2 split decision.

While on Day 2, India’s Priya registered a dominant 5:0 win while Jadumani Singh pushed the top seed to the wire.

In the women’s 60kg category, Priya put on a clinical display to secure a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volossenko.
