New Delhi, June 11 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday attended the 11th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reiterated the state’s commitment to contributing towards the vision of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat.

Taking to social media platform X after the meeting, the Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of stronger coordination among states, effective utilisation of India’s demographic dividend, greater opportunities for youth, women-centric governance initiatives and leveraging the benefits arising from India’s expanding trade engagements with countries across the world.

Sarma stated that Prime Minister Modi emphasised the need for states and the Centre to work in close coordination to accelerate the country’s growth trajectory and ensure that the benefits of development reach every section of society. According to the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister also underlined the significance of creating employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for young people, while placing women at the centre of governance and development programmes.

The discussions during the Governing Council meeting focused on key developmental priorities and strategies aimed at sustaining India’s rapid economic growth and enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.

In his post, Sarma noted that India currently stands at a crucial juncture in its development journey, with the country remaining one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world. He added that India continues to attract investments, innovation and talent from across the globe, reflecting growing international confidence in the country’s economic potential.

The Chief Minister further stated that the spirit of cooperative federalism remains central to achieving the ambitious goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, “Team India” would continue to work collectively to build a stronger, more prosperous and inclusive nation.

The NITI Aayog Governing Council, the apex body of the institution, brings together Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors and senior policymakers to deliberate on issues of national importance and chart the roadmap for India’s long-term development.
