Baraik’s resignation shows tribal community moving beyond appeasement politics: Marandi

Ranchi, June 11 (IANS) Leader of Opposition in Jharkhand Assembly, Babulal Marandi, on Thursday termed the resignation of Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik as a sign of changing political outlook of the tribal community.

He said the development indicates that the tribal community is rising above appeasement and dynastic politics and aligning itself with nationalism and development-oriented politics.

In a post on X, Babulal Marandi said that Prakash Chik Baraik, through his resignation, has made it clear that the mandate of the people of West Bengal is in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

According to him, the resignation is not merely that of a single MP but reflects growing confidence among the tribal community in the BJP.

The BJP leader further said that the tribal community in Jharkhand is closely observing that the BJP is genuinely working on issues related to jal (Water), jungle (Forest), zameen (Land), sanskriti (Culture) and samman (Dignity).

He claimed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the tribal community has, for the first time, received broader respect and adequate political representation.

Targeting the Trinamool Congress, Babulal Marandi said, “The continuing resignations within the party indicate a waning public trust in it,” adding that the political shift could shape a new direction for politics in eastern India in the coming years.

He also claimed that increasing political participation of the tribal community and its support for the BJP would play a key role in reshaping regional politics.

Baraik, after resigning from the Rajya Sabha, also quit the primary membership of the Trinamool Congress.

Speaking to media persons after the resignation, Baraik said, “The recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections had given a specific mandate. So, as a mark of respect to that, I decided to resign from the Rajya Sabha. At the same time, I have also decided to quit the Trinamool Congress. In the coming days, I will be working as per the instructions of the Chief Minister.”

Baraik is the third Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member who has resigned from the Upper House and from the primary membership of the party in the last four days. The first was Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and the second was Sushmita Dev.

With the resignation of Baraik, Trinamool Congress’s strength in the Rajya Sabha has declined from 13 to 10.
