Bengal polls: BJP accuses Trinamool of planting fake ‘internal survey’ reports

Kolkata, April 13 (IANS) The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of planting false and fabricated information in the media by attributing imaginary “internal surveys” to the saffron party ahead of the Assembly elections.

In a statement shared on social media, the BJP’s state unit denied conducting any such internal survey and alleged that the ruling TMC was spreading misinformation out of panic over the impending polls.

“There is no such internal survey of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The overwhelming support for the BJP in West Bengal has clearly unnerved the Trinamool Congress, which is now planting such scurrilous stories to distract from the real issues,” read the social media statement by the BJP.

It had also claimed that, more than the contest between different political parties, the elections in West Bengal this time are a direct contest between the common people of the state and the iniquitous Trinamool Congress regime.

“This election is a direct contest between the people of West Bengal and the criminal Trinamool regime. The BJP remains confident of securing an absolute majority and forming the next government,” the social media statement read.

BJP’s Information Technology cell chief and the party’s central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, also shared the message on his own social media handle.

“For quite some time, we have been witnessing media reports where such imaginary internal surveys by our party are being quoted. So on Monday, our official clarification or rebuttal on this issue,” a state committee member of the BJP said.

The two-phase assembly elections in West Bengal will be on April 23 and April 29. In the first phase, there will be polling for 152 assembly constituencies, and in the second phase, for the remaining 142 constituencies. The results will be declared on May 4.
