Brisbane City Council’s special appeal to support Alisher family has so far collected over $90,000.
With a $10,000 donation from the council itself the fundraising started in November to support the family of Manmeet Sharma, a Council bus driver who was tragically killed on Friday 28 October 2016
Brisbane Times reported that as of Thursday, 12th January, $90,779.20 had been donated to the ‘Manmeeet Alisher Trust’ set by the local council.
Deputy Mayor Adrian Schrinner told Fairfax that the local community has come forward with big hearts.
The biggest donation of $35,000 came from Brisbane’s local Indian-Australian community ($25,000 from Brisbane Sikh Temple Logan Road, $6500 from Guru Nanak Sikh Temple Inala, $2500 from Sikh Sabha Sikh Temple Taigum, $1000 Manjit Boparai).
The donations will be directed towards the Sharma family from village Alisher, Sangrur- Punjab, India.
29-year-old Manmeet Sharma had been supporting his family in India with his job as a bus driver.
