Patna, July 3 (IANS) Patna Police have claimed a breakthrough in the high-profile Anand Kumar murder case with the arrest of four accused persons and the recovery of the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.

The operation was carried out by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted under the supervision of the City Superintendent of Police (West), Saket Kumar. The case dates back to May 30, 2026, when the body of Anand Kumar was found near the bypass under the Beur police station limits in Patna. The deceased was identified as a resident of Paithani Natthupur.

Following a complaint lodged by his family, Beur Police Station Case No. 320/26 was registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, and an investigation was launched

“During the course of the investigation, police first arrested Umesh Kumar alias Sutali Rai on June 4. Building on technical surveillance and human intelligence, the SIT subsequently arrested four more accused from different locations,” Kumar said during the press conference on Friday.

Police have also seized the motorcycle allegedly used during the commission of the crime, along with other evidence.

According to police, the accused disclosed during interrogation that Anand Kumar was allegedly murdered as part of a contract killing (supari).

Investigators further stated that the shooters, Golu Kumar, Prince Kumar, and Mayank Kumar, who allegedly carried out the murder, are already lodged in judicial custody in connection with another criminal case registered at Didarganj Police Station.

The investigation indicates that the alleged motive behind the murder was a long-standing family dispute over land involving Anand Kumar and Bhutali Rai.

The four accused arrested in the latest operation on Thursday night have been identified as Rajiv Kumar (47), Adarsh Kumar alias Golu (25), Roshan Kumar (20), and Gauri Shankar (46). Police have recovered one motorcycle and four mobile phones from their possession.

Officials said the investigation is continuing to determine the roles of all individuals involved and to collect further evidence. Appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused in accordance with the law.
