Bihar: Bhojpur police deny threat allegations in Bharat Tiwari encounter case

Patna, June 27 (IANS) The Bhojpur Police have issued an official press release rejecting allegations made against Superintendent of Police (SP) Raj in connection with the controversial Bharat Tiwari encounter case.

The police described the accusations circulating on social media and certain media platforms as false, baseless, and devoid of facts.

The clarification comes after Bharat Tiwari’s brother, Chandan Tiwari, alleged that the SP had threatened him during a meeting with the family. According to the Bhojpur Police, the SP visited Bharat Tiwari’s residence to express condolences, interact with family members, and assure them of an impartial investigation.

The police stated that female police personnel from Shahpur police station were also present during the visit.

The official statement said that the family requested a conversation away from the gathering, after which the discussion took place at a short distance from the crowd.

During the meeting, the family reportedly raised concerns regarding their safety and demanded a fair investigation into the incident.

The police categorically denied allegations of intimidation or pressure. The press release stated that no threats were issued and that the allegations appear to have been influenced by external factors.

The department reiterated its commitment to conducting a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation and appealed to the public not to spread rumours or unverified information.

Earlier, Bharat Tiwari’s brother Chandan Tiwari had alleged that the SP took him aside during the meeting and described his brother as a criminal who had been killed after firing at the police.

He further claimed that he was warned that similar action could be taken against him. These allegations have intensified public debate surrounding the encounter.

The family’s and the police’s claims differ sharply. While the family alleges intimidation and pressure, the police maintain that the interaction was conducted respectfully and solely to offer condolences and ensure a fair inquiry.

Meanwhile, a judicial inquiry into the encounter is already underway, and several police personnel have faced departmental action in connection with the case.

The findings of the investigation are expected to play a crucial role in determining the facts surrounding Bharat Tiwari’s death.

At present, the matter remains under investigation, and the competing claims made by both sides continue to be closely scrutinised by the public, political parties, and investigative authorities.
