Patna, April 29 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, has expressed deep condolences over the death of a labourer from Khagaria, who was killed in a firing incident in Delhi’s Dwarka locality. The Chief Minister directed the Labour Resources Department to provide an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the deceased man’s family, along with an additional Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund — taking the total assistance to Rs 8 lakh.

Describing the incident as deeply tragic, he also prayed for strength and resilience for the bereaved family during this difficult time.

The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Jaffarpur Kalan police station, where a Delhi Police Head Constable allegedly opened fire on two youths from Bihar.

One of the victims, Pandav Kumar (23), succumbed to injuries, while the other remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The incident has sparked concern over policing and accountability, with questions being raised about the circumstances that led to the firing.

Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav expressed condolences and criticised the law and order situation in Delhi.

Meanwhile, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) Delhi President, Rajneesh Kumar, termed the incident shocking and said it raises serious concerns about the functioning of the Delhi Police.

Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, also reacted strongly, targeting the ruling dispensation and highlighting the vulnerability of migrants from Bihar.

The issue escalated politically after Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi made a controversial remark regarding the incident.

His statement drew sharp criticism from Tejashwi Yadav, who demanded an apology, calling the comment insensitive and inappropriate.

With the BJP in power both in Delhi and Bihar, Opposition parties have intensified their attack, questioning governance, accountability and the critical state of law and order.

The incident has now turned into a political flashpoint, with leaders trading accusations over law and order and administrative responsibility.
