Patna, April 29 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday expressed grief over the killing of Executive Officer Krishna Bhushan Kumar in a firing incident at Sultanganj Nagar Parishad in Bhagalpur district.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister termed the incident “extremely tragic” and paid tribute to the officer’s dedication and courage. He stated that Krishna Bhushan had shown unparalleled commitment to duty and made the supreme sacrifice while serving the public.

The Chief Minister announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the bereaved family and confirmed that the last rites of the deceased officer would be conducted with full state honours.

Extending condolences, he said: “May God grant peace to the departed soul and provide strength to the family members during this difficult time.”

Meanwhile, Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi reacted strongly to the incident and took a swipe at Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav. In his social media post, Manjhi criticised Tejashwi Yadav and praised the police response, stating that this is the new Bihar and asserting that strong action would be taken against criminals.

“Even Alexander the Great had to kneel before the mighty army of the emperor. What standing do the people of Tejashwi Yadav’s gang have? Well, now I will just say this: This is the new Bihar, here, a bullet will be answered with a cannon. Well done, Bhagalpur Police,” Manjhi said.

The incident has sparked sharp political reactions across Bihar, with leaders trading accusations over the state’s law and order situation.

While the government has assured strict action against the perpetrators, the opposition continues to question the safety of public officials.

On Tuesday, around 4 pm, Executive Officer Krishna Bhushan Kumar was shot dead inside his office at the Sultanganj Nagar Parishad. Three armed assailants barged into his chamber and opened fire, killing him on the spot.

In the same incident, Municipal Chairman Raj Kumar alias Guddu was also shot and is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.

The sensational shootout case from Sultanganj in Bhagalpur took a dramatic turn in the early hours of Wednesday, as the prime accused, Ramdhani Yadav, was killed in a police encounter.

The development has intensified concerns over law and order in the region, with tension prevailing in several areas.

According to police officials, Ramdhani Yadav, along with two of his accomplices, had surrendered following the shocking daylight killing of Executive Officer Krishna Bhushan and the serious injury of Municipal Chairman Raj Kumar.

During interrogation, the accused was taken by police to recover the weapon used in the crime and gather further evidence related to the case.

Police stated that the situation escalated suddenly during the recovery operation when the accused — allegedly acting in coordination with unidentified associates — opened fire on the police team.

In retaliation, the police fired back in self-defence, leading to a brief but intense exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, Ramdhani Yadav sustained critical injuries and collapsed.

He was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The encounter also left three police personnel injured in the crossfire. They have been admitted to the hospital and are currently undergoing treatment under medical supervision.
