Patna, April 28 (IANS) In a shocking incident in Bihar’s Sultanganj, armed criminals stormed the office of the Sultan Nagar Parishad (Municipal Council) in broad daylight on Tuesday, killing a senior official and leaving another critically injured.

The SHO of the Sultanganj police station confirmed the incident.

“The deceased has been identified as Krishna Bhushan, the Executive Officer (EO), who died on the spot following the indiscriminate firing. The Municipal Council Chairman, Rajkumar Guddu, sustained serious gunshot injuries and is currently battling for his life in the Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH), Bhagalpur,” he said.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred shortly after the conclusion of an advertising contract auction at the council office.

EO Krishna Bhushan was holding a discussion with Chairman Guddu in his chamber around 4 PM when three masked assailants arrived on a motorcycle and entered the premises.

The attackers stormed into the chamber and opened fire indiscriminately, executing the attack with such speed that staff and security personnel had no time to react.

After the assault, the criminals fled the scene while brandishing weapons, leaving the office in chaos.

Both officials were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Krishna Bhushan dead on arrival.

Due to the severity of his injuries, Chairman Guddu was referred to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where he is currently admitted to the ICU and remains in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the attack may be linked to the advertising tender process, with suspicions of a turf war or contractual dispute behind the incident.

Senior police officials, including the Bhagalpur SSP, rushed to the spot along with a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team.

Authorities have sealed district borders, launched multiple raids to track down the attackers, and begun scanning CCTV footage from the area.

The brazen attack inside a government office has raised serious concerns over law and order and security arrangements in the region.

Police have initiated a detailed investigation and assured that the culprits will be apprehended.
