Bihar govt makes SDO’s permission mandatory for wedding functions amid LPG concerns

Patna, April 9 (IANS) In view of the ongoing global petroleum crisis and rising concerns over LPG availability, the Bihar government, on Thursday, issued a major directive regulating fuel usage during wedding ceremonies and social functions.

As per the new notification, prior permission from the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) has been made mandatory for organising weddings, tilak ceremonies, and other public functions in the coming months.

The Bihar government has laid down strict instructions to ensure proper use and availability of LPG.

It has made SDO permission mandatory before organising any wedding or social event.

Applicants must submit a copy of the wedding invitation card along with the application, and details of expected guests and the required number of cylinders must be mentioned in the form.

Use of commercial LPG cylinders is compulsory, and domestic cylinders are strictly prohibited for such functions.

The SDO will evaluate the application and estimate demand.

Based on this, oil companies will supply commercial cylinders proportionately.

The allocated commercial gas must be used strictly for the approved function only.

The law enforcement agencies will closely monitor functions, and they will take strict action against violators.

To streamline LPG supply during the peak wedding season from April 15, the state government has outlined a structured process.

As per the provisions, cooks and caterers must register for commercial LPG.

Oil companies have been directed to complete registrations within five to seven days.

The state government noted that domestic LPG cylinders are often misused during large functions, leading to shortages for regular households.

With potential supply disruptions due to global issues — particularly in West Asia — the state aims to prevent LPG backlog, ensure fair distribution, and avoid a crisis during peak wedding season.

Officials emphasised that this move is intended to prevent inconvenience to the general public during the upcoming wedding season and ensure uninterrupted LPG supply for both households and event organisers.
