Bihar police to seek custody of suspected terror operative, probe possible Pak links

Patna, July 7 (IANS) Bihar’s Munger Police will produce a suspected anti-national operative before a local court on Tuesday and seek judicial remand for further interrogation in connection with an alleged terror conspiracy and suspected cross-border links.

Police claimed that the suspected anti-national operative was arrested on Monday and was in contact with a cross-border network. Police said he was planning a major terror incident along with two associates.

However, officials have emphasized that the investigation is still at a preliminary stage and that all claims are being verified through scientific and technical evidence.

According to the police, acting on specific intelligence, a raid was conducted in Milik Thanpur village under the Tarapur police station limits, leading to the arrest of Mohammad Saddam on Monday evening.

Police said the accused attempted to flee during the operation and had concealed a country-made pistol in nearby bushes, which was later recovered.

A mobile phone was also seized and has been sent for forensic examination.

During interrogation, investigators learned that Mohammad Saddam had been residing in Mumbai for the past two to three years.

Police allege that during this period, he came into contact with an individual identified as Rana Bhai, who is believed to have links with a suspected cross-border network.

A preliminary examination of the seized mobile phone reportedly revealed contacts with Pakistani phone numbers and suspicious interactions through social media platforms.

Police are conducting a detailed forensic analysis of the digital evidence to determine the nature and extent of these alleged connections. Investigators claim that initial questioning suggests the accused, along with two associates, was planning a major terror incident.

Police have identified the two suspected accomplices and launched continuous raids to trace and arrest them. Officials, however, stressed that the investigation is ongoing and that the complete picture will emerge only after the remaining suspects are apprehended and all evidence is examined.

An FIR has been registered under Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.

The investigation is being supervised by senior police officers, with information also being shared with central and other security agencies to determine whether the case has links to any larger network.

Tarapur SDPO Kumar Devendra described the case as highly sensitive and said investigators are examining every aspect of the case.

“Interrogation has revealed that he was in contact with a cross-border network linked to Rana Bhai. He had two other associates, and the trio was planning to execute a major terror incident. The investigation is ongoing; a case has been registered, and the network is being probed. He had come into contact with Rana Bhai while he was in Mumbai. Following a crackdown there, he fled Mumbai and came to Munger,” said Kumar Devendra, SDPO, Tarapur.

He added that it would be premature to draw any conclusion at this stage.

Meanwhile, Munger Police continue raids to arrest the two absconding suspects, while forensic experts are examining the seized mobile phone and other electronic evidence.
