Bihar: RJD MLA visit’s JD-U office, triggers political speculation

Patna, May 27 (IANS) A fresh round of political speculation has emerged in Bihar after Narendra Kumar Singh, popularly known as Bogo Singh, made a surprise visit to the state headquarters of the Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) in Patna and held a lengthy meeting with Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar.

The development triggered intense political chatter over whether the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislator was considering a return to the JD-U, a party with which he had previously been associated for several years.

However, while speaking to the media, Bogo Singh denied any political motive behind the meeting.

He clarified that he had visited the Health Minister regarding issues related to a hospital in his native village and had gone to the JD-U office only because Nishant Kumar was conducting a public grievance hearing (Janata Darbar) there.

According to the MLA, he had earlier met officials in the Health Department and later learnt that the minister was available at the JD-U office.

He said the minister assured him that action would be taken regarding the matter.

Bogo Singh recalled that during 2014–15, after consultations with then Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he had constructed two six-bed hospitals, one on land registered in his mother’s name and another on land registered in his wife’s name.

He claimed the projects were completed at significant expense, but after he lost the Assembly election, the hospitals were neglected, and one was later reduced to a Health Sub-Centre.

The MLA stated that after being re-elected from the Matihani Assembly constituency, he wanted to revive healthcare facilities in the region and had therefore approached the Health Minister on behalf of local residents.

Even though Bogo Singh avoided commenting on the political realignment, his appearance at the JD(U) office has fuelled speculation amid reports of political shifts within opposition ranks in Bihar.

Recently, former RJD women’s wing chief Ritu Jaiswal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while NDA leaders have continued claiming that more opposition figures may switch sides ahead of upcoming political contests.

Bogo Singh himself had left the JD-U in 2025, joined the RJD to contest elections, eventually winning the Matihani Assembly seat.

His latest interaction with JD-U leaders has therefore generated fresh discussion within Bihar’s political circles about possible future realignments.
