Anthony Shorten grew up the youngest of eight children in a Housing Commission house in Coopers Plains. His mother Ethel had moved there from her family’s farm which was on the corner of Musgrave Rd and Troughton Rd.
In fact Anthony’s mum and one of his sisters still live in the village, where the army camp was when Anthony attended Coopers Plains State School.
After graduating from Sunnybank State High School Anthony went straight into the work force as a sales assistant with Target. In nearly 30 years of working Anthony has driven forklifts, loaded trucks, hung gyprock and serviced his customers firstly as a Sales Representative with Visy Industries and Amcor, and served his community as a Member of Parliament. Anthony believes that education allows individuals to reach their potential and for the past 2 years he has worked in Vocational Education and Training industry imparting his knowledge and experience in Business.
Growing up in Sunnybank Anthony is driven by a passion to deliver for his community. He sees issues that were around when he was kid which have not been fixed yet after 22 years of Labor Government, like the Coopers Plains Railway Crossing. Anthony believes in Opportunity, opportunity for our kids to get a good job, he believes in Responsibility, people need to take responsibility for their actions and he believes in Community, he has seen the strength of community through his involvement with Neighbourhood Watch and Lions.
Anthony has a track record of delivering both while in Government and outside of Government. He has continued to campaign on local issues affecting his community, and he has continued his involvement in many multicultural events across the Southside of Brisbane.
Anthony with his wife Kelly, have a young family, his daughter who goes to a local school and his 2 year old son intend to live in the area he grew up in.
