BJP set to form govt in Tripura tribal council: CM Saha

Agartala, April 1 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday asserted that the era of muscle power and communal provocation in politics is nearing its end, expressing confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the next administration in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to ensure development of the Janajati (tribal) people.

Saha, also a senior BJP leader, made the remarks after flagging off ten BJP campaign vehicles in front of the party’s state headquarters.

He said the vehicles will travel across all tribal-inhabited areas to raise awareness about the developmental work undertaken by the BJP-led government.

Highlighting the upcoming TTAADC elections scheduled for April 12, the Chief Minister said the campaign aims to reach communities that may not yet be fully aware of government initiatives.

“The vehicle will tour the region to inform people about the work done for Janajati welfare,” he said.

Saha claimed that the BJP is receiving a positive response on the ground, adding that several leaders from the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) have already joined the BJP, while others have shown interest in switching sides.

Criticising previous administrations, he said both the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and TMP failed to deliver meaningful development in the TTAADC.

In contrast, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for prioritising the welfare and development of Janajati communities.

“People now understand that politics cannot be sustained by misleading them; real work is required. Only the BJP can ensure genuine development in TTAADC,” he said, adding that alleged corruption in the council would be exposed before the public.

The Chief Minister also stressed that the BJP’s campaign is being conducted in an organised manner, with party workers actively engaged across the region.

He said he would soon join the campaign, noting that public trust in Prime Minister Modi is driving support for the BJP.

Referring to recent incidents of violence, Saha described them as acts of frustration. He said the government has taken note of an attack on a minister’s vehicle and assured that law enforcement agencies would take appropriate action.

“People want peace, and we are committed to ensuring it. We are confident that BJP will form the government in TTAADC,” he added, while dismissing allegations of land-related concerns as misleading.

BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya, Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy, and other party leaders were present at the event.

Meanwhile, a clash between BJP and TMP workers took place in Kamalpur in Dhalai district, injuring eight people, including three security personnel.

The 30-member TTAADC, comprising 28 elected representatives and 2 nominated by the state government, will go to the polls on April 12. Since 2021, the Tipra Motha Party, an ally of the ruling BJP, has governed the strategically important TTAADC, which administers nearly two-thirds of Tripura’s 10,491 sq km geographical area.
