Kolkata, May 1 (IANS) Union Minister of State and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar has expressed strong confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party forming the next government in West Bengal with a decisive mandate, asserting that issues like infiltration, corruption, and law and order will be addressed firmly under a BJP regime.

In an exclusive interaction with IANS, Majumdar spoke on electoral prospects, allegations by the Opposition, post-poll security, and key governance priorities if the BJP comes to power in the state.

IANS: How do you assess the current electoral situation in West Bengal?

Sukanta Majumdar: I believe that a government of the Bharatiya Janata Party is going to be formed here with a two-thirds majority. There has been tremendous voting. Many people who had migrated to other states for work returned to cast their votes against the current government. I think when the EVMs are opened on the counting day, the results will clearly reflect a massive victory for the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

IANS: You have been vocal about infiltration. What steps will a BJP government take on this issue?

Sukanta Majumdar: The Home Minister has already laid out a roadmap with the policy of “detect, delete and deport.” This policy will be implemented effectively. Infiltration is a serious issue, and we are committed to addressing it in a systematic and lawful manner.

IANS: You have suggested that the ruling party is already in ‘opposition mode’. What do you mean by that?

Sukanta Majumdar: I feel there are clear indications that Mamata Banerjee and her party have mentally prepared to sit in the opposition. Usually, protests and sit-ins are tools of the Opposition. Their current approach reflects that shift, as if they have already accepted the outcome.

IANS: The Trinamool Congress has raised concerns over the election processes. How do you respond?

Sukanta Majumdar: The Election Commission has clarified everything. All stakeholders were informed in advance, including about procedures like the segregation of postal ballots. The allegations made by the Trinamool Congress have been proven incorrect by the Commission.

IANS: If the BJP forms the government, will there be investigations into corruption allegations against the current leadership?

Sukanta Majumdar: First, let the government be formed. Any decisions regarding investigations will be taken by the Chief Minister and the Cabinet as per law. Actions cannot be driven by vendetta; they must follow due legal process. However, wherever there is corruption, strict action will be taken against whoever the person is.

IANS: There are questions about possible legal action against top leaders from Trinamool. What is your view?

Sukanta Majumdar: If investigations are being carried out by agencies like the CBI and ED, then the courts will decide the course of action. Our stand is clear — corruption will not be tolerated, irrespective of who is involved.

IANS: What are your views on tackling extremism in the state?

Sukanta Majumdar: Extremism of any kind should be eliminated. However, it is not appropriate to pre-empt decisions. Once the government is formed, the Chief Minister and Cabinet will deliberate and take appropriate steps. The priority will be to ensure peace and security.

IANS: How do you view the Babri Masjid issue in the current context?

Sukanta Majumdar: We are against any structure built in the name of Babri or Babur. Babur was an invader, and history reflects the suffering caused during that period. This is a sensitive issue and should be understood in its historical context.

IANS: Post-election violence has been a concern in West Bengal. How can it be prevented?

Sukanta Majumdar: The Home Minister has already stated that Central Forces will remain deployed for around 60 days after the results. This will help maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.

IANS: Who will be the Chief Minister if the BJP comes to power?

Sukanta Majumdar: That decision will be taken by the party leadership through established organisational mechanisms. We have a parliamentary board; our winning MLAs under the leadership of PM Modi will decide on the Chief Minister.
